Where Daniel James' Leeds United move from Man Utd ranks in club's all-time transfers

Daniel James is officially a Leeds United player.

The Wales winger put pen to paper on a £25million - plus add-ons - move from Manchester United.

He's signed a five-year deal with the Elland Road club, two and a half years after coming so close to joining Marcelo Bielsa's outfit.

It brings an end to his two-year Old Trafford career, where he experienced highs and lows under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The fee paid by the Whites is £10million more than United paid Swansea City in the summer of 2019.

James moved north in a £15million deal - rising to £18million depending on clauses.

Where does James rank in Leeds' all-time club transfers?

Well, he comes out right on top, when the add-ons are factored in.

Leeds paid £26million for Rodrigo last summer, while they splashed out £23million for Rio Ferdinand back in 2000.

Diego Llorente joined from Real Sociedad for £18million, with Raphinha also moving to Yorkshire from Stade Rennais for nearly £17million.

Robbie Keane's arrival from Inter 20 years ago for £16.2million comes in next, followed by Helda Costa's switch from Wolves, which totted up to a shade under £16million.

James' switch to Elland Road will eclipse all of the above when add-ons are factored in, with the total deal worth in the region of £30million.

Victor Orta, director of football at Leeds, said: "I have to say a huge thank you to my team firstly – the football department have been monitoring Daniel for a number of years and every member of my team has worked hard to get this deal over the line. It is no secret that Daniel is a player we have been keen to acquire for a number of years and today we achieved our goal.

"As a player we feel Daniel is an excellent fit for a Marcelo Bielsa team, he is quick, direct and works hard – we look forward to him joining up with the squad, finally!"
