Where Corrie fans have seen Oliver's doctor before as actress' past roles exposed

Coronation Street aired distressing scenes on Monday night, as Leanne Battersby and Steve McDonald learned something was seriously wrong with their son Oliver.

The youngster, three, has been suffering from seizures recently with doctors investigating whether he might be epileptic.

But Monday's episode brought the news things were much more serious than they originally thought, with Oliver rushed to hospital.

They began a series of tests and scans including a full brain MRI.

But it was when they moved on to genetic testing, looking for any mutations, that they made an alarming discovery.

Coronation Street's Dr Ward is played by actress Zita Sattar (ITV)

Dr Ward told Leanne and Steve that their son was likely to be suffering from a genetic disease, and that it could be mitochondrial disease.

Those watching the ITV soap may have recognised the actress who plays Dr Ward.

The actress is a familiar face, and has been in a number of big TV shows.

Zita Sattar played Anna Paul on Casualty (BBC)

Zita Sattar is currently portraying the doctor during the hard-hitting storyline.

One of her most memorable roles is that of nurse Anna Paul on Casualty between 2001 and 2003, while she also made an appearance in the same role on Holby City.

She was tragically killed off in the show's huge train crash in 2003.

Corrie fans may recognise Dr Ward (ITV)

Other roles include stints on The Bill, Dalziel and Pascoe and Prisoners Wives.

Viewers may also recognise her from BBC soap Doctors, where she's played two different characters.

Most recent roles include appearances on ITV's Vera and kids show The Worst Witch, and not to forget her role as Yvonne on Years and Years, and her time as Amita on Mount Pleasant.

Dr Ward will no doubt be on Corrie for a while, amid the soap's ongoing storyline with Oliver.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV.
