Where Chiefs stand in AFC West after Week 8

It was ugly, but the Kansas City Chiefs managed to fend off the New York Giants on “Monday Night Football.” While the win didn’t quite help Kansas City move up in the AFC West, it did help the team move a bit closer to the top squads.

Take a look at the AFC West standings after Week 8:

  1. Las Vegas Raiders (5-2)
  2. Los Angeles Chargers (4-3)
  3. Kansas City Chiefs (4-4)
  4. Denver Broncos (4-4)

The Chiefs remain in third place thanks to their win, and continue to have the same record as the Broncos after the latter’s victory over Washington in Week 8. Kansas City remains ahead of Denver due to a better record in common games thanks to the win over the Browns back in Week 1.

Last week the Chiefs were two games behind first place, but they’re now 1.5 games back due to the Raiders’ bye week. The Chargers lost to the New England Patriots, putting them only a half-game up above Kansas City in the division race.

Looking ahead, the Chiefs have an AFC West-filled schedule. Four of their next six games are against AFC West opponents, with the next one coming in two weeks against the Raiders in Las Vegas. In order to have a chance at being the first AFC West team in history with six-straight division titles, K.C. will likely need to be near perfect during that stretch.
