Where Chiefs stand in AFC West after Week 7

The Kansas City Chiefs had a chance to close the gap a bit more in the AFC West standings in Week 7, but instead, that gap widened further. Following the Chiefs’ 27-3 loss against the Tennessee Titans, here’s where K.C. stands in its division:

  1. Las Vegas Raiders (5-2)
  2. Los Angeles Chargers (4-2)
  3. Kansas City Chiefs (3-4)
  4. Denver Broncos (3-4)

The Chiefs are now two games behind first-place and 1.5 games behind second. K.C. also has a loss against the Chargers which puts the Chiefs even further back since L.A. would have a tiebreaker over them.

Despite the tough loss, there is some good news for K.C. The Chiefs currently hold a tiebreaker over the Broncos thanks to a better record in common games (the Chiefs beat the Browns while Denver lost to them in Week 6). That means, technically, the Chiefs are not in last place.

More good news is that the season is still young, especially in terms of the AFC West division. The Chiefs have time to turn things around and they’ll have an opportunity to do so against the entire AFC West with five divisional games remaining on their schedule. K.C.’s next AFC West matchup will come in Week 10 against the Raiders on Sunday Night Football in Las Vegas. If things go well for Kansas City en route to that game, this could be a season-defining moment for the Chiefs.
