Where can I buy a poppy near me today for Remembrance Day 2021?

Poppies are bought through the Poppy Appeal and worn by millions of people across the commonwealth every year.

The iconic symbol of remembrance commemorates those that have given their lives in times of conflict. The charity is run by the British Legion, who donate proceeds to members of the armed forces both former and serving, their families and dependants.

Last year collectors weren't able to carry out face-to-face collections.

But this year they have been returning to local communities, and there are around 40,000 collectors across the country.

But where can you buy one, and how much should you donate?

Poppies are now available online and available to buy all year round on the British Legion Website.

You can now purchase one through their commercial partners – Amazon and eBay.

However, you may wish to pick up a poppy the more traditional way by buying from one of the thousands of individual sellers or donation boxes dotted across the country.

The British Legion say there will be 40,000 sellers out on the streets looking to do their bit and help raise for the cause.

Additionally, poppies are available in 12,000 shops, including your local Waitrose, Morrisons, Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's.

You can also donate online on the British Legion Website.

How much should you donate for a poppy?

This year's target is to rise a massive £43 million for people involved across the Royal Air Force, Royal Army and Royal Navy and so there really is no upper limit in how much to give.

The charity helps some 100,000 service people per year.

However, if you want to donate at roughly what the British Legion thinks is the normal amount to avoid embarrassment or confusion, they have put together a list of recommendations.

Paper Poppy: £1.00

Silk Poppy: £3.00

Altar Poppy: £0.50

Poppy Bracelet: £2.00

Car Poppy: £5.00

Lorry Poppy: £10.00

Magnetic Car poppy: £5.00

Magnetic Lorry Poppy: £10.00

Poppy Reflector: £1.00

Wrist Bands: £2.00

Wooden Crosses: £2.50

Don't worry if you don't have cash, as many sellers are now carrying Covid-friendly contactless card machines.

You can also donate via text using these numbers:

To donate £5 text POPPY5 to 70545

To donate £10 text POPPY10 to 70545

It is understood that the British Legion lost around £20 million in donation last year due to the pandemic stopping street sellers from getting out, and now the organisation are fighting back, encouraging people to help out in any way they can.

The Legion reportedly spends some £60 million per year helping people involved in the armed forces, and so the remembrance season is vital to ensuring they can help as many people as possible by providing a hug chunk of their fundraising.
