With Peyton Manning under center for the Denver Broncos, the team won an astounding 45 regular-season games out of a possible 57. Manning would help lead the Broncos to the playoffs in each of his four seasons playing in Denver, including a 24-10 Super Bowl victory over the Carolina Panthers.
Since the retirement of the future Hall of Famer, the quarterback position has been a game of musical chairs with each incumbent hopeful they’d be the one to take the reins for the foreseeable future. As it stands now, the team appears to be in an excellent position for immediate success with Joe Flacco at the helm while grooming Drew Lock to be the quarterback of the future.
As such, let’s take a look at the four players who passed through the revolving door over the last several seasons and see where they are now.
Upon being drafted in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL draft, Trevor Siemian climbed his way up the depth chart all the way to the starting spot.
As the starter, he saw flashes of success but after two years in Denver, his time was up as he finished with a 13-11 record. During the 2018 season, Siemian served as a backup to Kirk Cousins for the Minnesota Vikings. Siemian is now listed as a backup for the New York Jets where he will be competing for a roster spot for the upcoming 2019 season.
Former Broncos 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch was thought to have been the future franchise quarterback in Denver but he struggled to live up to his draft-day expectations as he won one game in his five starts.
Lynch was cut prior to the 2018 season as the team had claimed Kevin Hogan off waivers. More recently, the Seattle Seahawks have given Lynch another shot at making an NFL roster as he aims to back up Russell Wilson in 2019.
During the 2015 Super Bowl run, Brock Osweiler ended up starting in the final seven regular-season games, finishing with an impressive 5-2 record. However, Manning would return to his starting role in the postseason helping the team win its third Super Bowl title.
Osweiler then took a brief hiatus from Denver as he led the Houston Texans to the playoffs in 2016, going 9-6 as the starter including a Wild Card round win over the Oakland Raiders. Osweiler would return to Denver in 2017, appearing in six games while going 0-4 as the starter.
In 2018 Osweiler played for the Miami Dolphins and went 2-3 as the starter and appeared in seven games. As of right now, he is currently a free agent.
For the first time since 2014, the Broncos featured one quarterback all season long as Case Keenum started all 16 games in 2018. Keenum was coming off a historic season in Minnesota but his magical flair from 2017 fizzled out in Denver as the team lost its final four games, ending the year at 6-10.
Now a member of the Washington Redskins, Keenum will be battling against first-round draft pick Dwayne Haskins for the starting spot.
