Where are the musical innovators?

At risk of appearing obsessive, a very speedy return to Alex James, who, as we have learnt, is to take his place in the reformation of Blur.

Writing in this week's Spectator, he says: "Pop music hasn't been very exciting recently - I don't think anything new has happened this millennium, maybe even in the past 20 years."

Do we think his sense of irony is very finely developed or simply that it doesn't exist? Maybe he honestly believes that a reunion concert series might be just the trick to lift two decades of the same old stuff to glorious and innovative heights.
