Where are the Irish stars of The Great British Bake Off now? a mystery to 'naked snaps' controversy

The Great British Bake Off is one of the most popular shows on TV back in the UK, and it has a sizeable Irish following too.

And Ireland, particularly Northern Ireland, has been very well represented on the show down through the years since it first aired in 2010.

Here is a collection of the most memorable, and what exactly they're getting up to now.

Mark Lutton

Just last month Mark Lutton became the sixth contestant to leave the Great British Bake Off.

The Northern Irish baker, 27, failed to impress during Japanese Week - and fell flat during the last challenge.

The bakers were tasked with a signature challenge of Japanese steamed buns, which Mark did fairly well in but was told his burger-style buns were a little dry.

His technical round, which involved a tricky recipe of stacked matcha pancakes, also saw him take a middle spot place.

But it was the showstopper round, themed around kawaii, which proved to be his undoing.

Mark had created "Avo Baby' style cakes of varying sizes which, from the look of it, judge Prue Leith described as "witty and charming".

Mark only left Bake Off recently, so we don't know what his next move is yet, however on Twitter he did reveal he was taking part in an initiative for health workers at the Royal Hospital in Liverpool, baking cakes and biscuits for frontline workers.

It is somewhat a mystery how far the show will now take him.

Andrew Smyth

Andrew, who is from Holywood, Co Down, was on Bake Off back in 2018 and very nearly took home the top prize, making it to the final.

On his personal website, the talented Northern Irishman said he now splits his time between working as a TV personality and researching aerospace engineering, which he studied at Cambridge University.

He said: "I now divide my time between Aerospace research, writing & presenting live events and contributing to TV, radio & online features. I've been thrilled to work with clients including the BBC, ITV, Warner Brothers, Channel 5, nPower and the IET.

"In 2018 & 2019, I toured a live 'bakineering' show around the UK and Ireland to inspire the next generation of engineers."

Iain Watters

A star on the show way back in 2014, Iain Watters grew up just outside of Belfast.

Iain’s parents were passionate about organic foods and this outlook has directly affected his style of baking.

His passion for travelling has taken him to all corners of the globe, and he brings these flavours and influence to the bakes he likes to make.

Pictures of him stripping off for a series of “naked rambler” shots in Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania while on his travels were caused some controversy when they were revealed.

The Northern Irishman is living in London where he works as a project manager with a construction company, and has amassed an impressive 25,000 followers on Twitter.

Imelda McCarron

Imelda may have been the first off the show in 2018 but she has kept on baking since and keeps people up to date on her Instagram.

The 35-year-old from Tyrone was a recreation officer when she joined the show over two years ago.
