'When you compare that' - Alan Shearer sends Liverpool message to Manchester United and Ralf Rangnick

Alan Shearer believes Manchester United’s structure is not only chaotic - but the reason why the club is so far behind Liverpool and their other Premier League rivals.

United have lost their way since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, and are yet to win a Premier League title since the Scot’s departure.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool have all been crowned league champions in that time, with the Reds and the Stamford Bridge club also winning the Champions League.

United currently sit 11 points behind Liverpool, 12 behind Chelsea and a huge 22 behind local-rivals City in the Premier League table.

The Old Trafford outfiy appointed Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager until the end of the season back in November following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.

Rangnick will then stay on for an additional two years in a consultancy role, working closely with John Murtough and Darren Fletcher.

But Shearer, speaking on the BBC ahead of United’s win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup, believes the club's structure is costing Rangnick from closing the gap on the teams above them.

He said: "It’s alright having that belief in how to play it’s also having the player to play that way and in that current system what he would like to play, no I don’t think they have the players.

"I think they’ve got a lot of good players here but I don’t think there are enough very good players here.

"But he [Rangnick] has walked into a very difficult situation here because structurally Man United it’s chaos I think because you’ve got a football director, John Murtough, you’ve got technical director, Darren Fletcher, you’ve got an interim manager for the next four, five months that goes into a consultancy role then going to look for a manager.

"When you compare that to the top clubs and you look at [Manchester] City, Liverpool and Chelsea, from that point of view Man United are miles off it."
