The International Space Station (ISS) will be visible from the UK tonight and tomorrow.
The ISS orbits the Earth about 16 times a day but it's not always visible at the most sociable times, reports the Mirror. It travels at a height of about 400km.
Tonight, it will be visible at 10.29pm and in the early hours of tomorrow at 12.06am. There will be other chances to see it over the weekend, as detailed below.
Nasa says: “All sightings will occur within a few hours before or after sunrise or sunset. This is the optimum viewing period as the sun reflects off the space station and contrasts against the darker sky.”
Its Spot the Station website allows you to find timings for sightings in your area. Your best chance to see the ISS is in an area with very little light pollution, such as the countryside.
Nasa advises: “The space station looks like an airplane or a very bright star moving across the sky, except it doesn’t have flashing lights or change direction.
“It will also be moving considerably faster than a typical airplane (airplanes generally fly at about 600mph; the space station flies at 17,500mph).”
