When will Washington’s rookie class finalize their contracts with the team?

It has been a wild offseason for everyone in the NFL due to the coronavirus pandemic, and all 32 teams have had to work to navigate the landscape and best figure out how to stay safe going forward.

For Washington, it has been a crazy few months even on top of the coronavirus pandemic, with a litany of off-field issues that have risen to the surface, including an upcoming name change and a sexual/verbal abuse scandal that’s rocked the team in the past couple of weeks.

While the league is getting set for training camp to begin soon, and many teams are looking to have players report to the facilities in the coming days, you’ll notice a trend taking place across the league as rookies start to finalize their contracts with the team and sign a deal. As of Tuesday, July 21st, not a single rookie in Washington has signed a deal with the team yet, including No. 2 overall pick Chase Young.

In 2019, Washington had signed all of their draft picks in May, just a month after the draft took place, before the team’s rookie minicamp took place.

So the question is: Why has Washington not signed any of their draft picks yet? The simple answer is that it probably has gotten pushed a bit to the back-burner with all of the other things taking place in the organization. As it stands now, though, all rookies must be signed before they show up to participate in training camp, which was reported to take place today, on July 21st.

Will we hear about the potential signings of that draft class soon? It’s likely. Don’t be surprised to see the crop of young guns agree to contracts within the next day or so.
