When will Vera be back on ITV? Viewers want answers as drama comes to an end

Vera came to an end for another series last Sunday night, with millions of viewers tuning into watch The Darkest Evening.

The last of six new episodes so far this year, the two hour feature length tale sees Brenda Blethyn's lead character taken on a journey into her past, after being caught up n a violent storm. The Darkest Evening follows on from the final two parts of series 11 - Vital Signs and The Way The Wind Blows and three episodes of series 12 - Against The Tide, For The Grace of God and Blue.

Vera has now been on our screens for over a decade, but its popularity shows no sign of waning anytime soon, with a huge marketing campaign for its new series launch in America seeing the famous character's face plastered on billboards and even on New York taxis.

Last year, Vera series 11 caused some confusion and frustration amongst fans, when ITV pulled it from schedules, with two episodes remaining and with no explanation as to why or when it would be back. The wait for the remaining parts lasted a year so viewers are now hoping they don't have as long to wait for another Vera fix this time round.

When is Vera back on ITV?

ChronicleLive contacted ITV Drama this week who told us that tos return 'had yet to be scheduled.'

What we do know is that the Vera cast and crew were kept busy in the run up to Christmas to film a 'special' episode. That episode is The Rising Tide, one of Vera author Ann Cleeves; most popular books. Fans caught sight of production happening on Holy Island and in Durham and Corbridge.

And lead actress Brenda has spoken about how much she always loves filming in the North East and how Ann has been busy on another book, adding: "Ann Cleeves is currently writing her 11th Vera novel. So that hasn’t been dealt with on screen yet and you feel like you’d be letting her down. All of that goes on. Never say never. Things happen ,circumstances change. Enthusiasm and opinions change. So watch this space."
