When will the snow and freezing weather end? Met Eireann's current forecast timeline

Met Eireann have forecast it will stay very cold through this weekend and into next week.

The chilly conditions will last for the rest of next week with further wintry showers or longer spells of sleet or snow at times.

Day time temperatures will mostly struggle to get above freezing with hard frost at night continuing.

Temperatures will drop as low as -3C over the weekend, according to Met Eireann who said wintry showers of sleet and snow are on the cards for most areas.

There will be good sunny spells and dry conditions for the first days of the New Year but forecasters added the freezing conditions will continue into next week.

A Met Eireann spokesman told the Irish Mirror: “There isn’t really an end in sight for the cold weather. It looks like it’s going to stay cold for the next week at least.

“It’s going to be cold today with low daytime temps from 3C to 6C but there is going to be a lot of dry and bright weather.

“Tonight will be cold and frosty with widespread temperatures of 0C to -2C and possibly as low as -3C in some places, so it will be another cold and frosty night.”

There isn’t much hope for snowmen though as forecasters say the white stuff will settle only on higher ground as rain showers are expected throughout the country, with many of them turning icy.

The Met Eireann forecaster said: “Because of the frequent showers, any accumulations of snow will likely clear pretty quickly, however, you will see accumulations in mountainous areas.

“Tomorrow will see showers moving further inland from the west, some of which could turn wintry. Saturday night will be very cold with temperatures as low as -2C or -3C across the country.”
