When will the Sky Sports subscription pause end?

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Sky Sports gave customers a one-off option to pause their subscriptions while sporting events were cancelled worldwide.

The purpose of the measure was to prevent subscribers from having to cancel and incurring early cancellation fees.

However the temporary offer is due to expire on June 19, provided more sporting events join the Premiere League in starting up again at that time.

“We are beginning the process of returning paused sport customers to billing, which requires sufficient time to communicate and implement fully,” posted a spokesperson in the Sky community forum.

“Should the live sport schedule change significantly, then we will absolutely look at alternate plans – no customers will be charged until mid-June at the earliest.”

What do you need to do?

Nothing. If you paused your Sky Sports package, you do not need to take any actions to resume it.

You will maintain access to your Sky Sports channels, and the subscription payment will be restart automatically.

You will not be charged for any days before June 19, and can check your bill online.

When will live sport return to your TV?

Following Thursday’s announcement, live Premier League football is set to return on June 17.

92 matches of the current season remain. 25 live matches will be available to all Sky viewers, with a further 39 available to Sky Sports subscribers.

The PGA Tour is due to re-start on 11 June, and some live golf had already begun. A full schedule of events is available here.

“Even more live sport is anticipated in the second half of the month,” reads Sky’s website, with a promise to “publicise widely” any other confirmed fixtures.

What if you do not want to un-pause your subscription?

There is currently no option for customers to extend their subscription pause.

However some customers have expressed dissatisfaction about being charged for a significantly reduced service from what they agreed to pay for.

For example, subscribers to sports that have not yet resumed will still start being charged again. The website promises them “full access to your Sky Sports channels and recordings to catch-up on the latest news, favourite sporting moments and archive footage.”

Sky’s customer service is widely unavailable at the moment do to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Please don't call us at this time,” reads a notice on the company’s website, “we're prioritising our most vulnerable customers and key workers at this time”.

Vulnerable customers and key workers are invited to call Sky on 03300 413 019.

Other complaints can be posted to Customer Complaints, Sky Subscribers Services Ltd, PO Box 43, Livingston, West Lothian, EH54 7DD.

The company warns “there will be a significant wait time on responding.”

“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
