When will the Scottish election results be announced?

Scotland heads to the polls on Thursday, May 6 in what is expected to be a most significant election since devolution in 1999.

Voters have heard from the candidates since the end of March now it's the time of the leaders to wait for you to deliver your ballot.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic the election count will be a bit different this time around.

Usually volunteers are in leisure and conference centre across Scotland counting the ballots cast into the wee small hours from Thursday into Friday.

This time the counting doesn't start to Friday, however in some cases it may not start till Saturday morning.

What that means is the result will be delayed.

The Electoral Management Board has released provisional dates, which suggest 47 constituency MSPs will be confirmed on Friday.

The remaining 26 are expected on Saturday.
