When will the Red Arrows fly over the Tyne Bridge at the Great North Run?

The sight - and sound - of the Red Arrows soaring above the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle is an iconic image of the Great North Run.

For spectators, the appearance of the RAF's famous aerial display team is an eagerly-awaited highlight of an already spectacular event and we've missed out on it now for the past two years.

In 2019 the planes were not part of the Great North Run as the team had other commitments abroad and in 2020 of course the whole event had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

In 2021 team flew north once again to lend their support to the half-marathon - the world's biggest - and swooped over Newcastle city centre, with their trails of red, white and blue to mark the occasion once the run got under way.

However, for 2022, the Great North Run comes just days after the nation went into mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. As a result, the Great North Run will go ahead but will be more subdued, and on Saturday it was announced that the Red Arrows flypast will not take place.

Run organisers usually expect the superstar moment over the Tyne Bridge to be 10.55am.

The Red Arrows have a huge number of commitments and during their display season they can pack two airshow displays and several flypasts into a single day. Details for flypasts tend to be confirmed just prior to the event.
