A National Moment of Reflection will take place at 8pm tonight (18 September).
The moment will be marked by a one-minute silence, during which members of the public can reflect on the late Queen's life and legacy, and mourn her passing. People can mark the silence privately at home, on their doorstep with neighbours, or at organised community events.
People overseas who wish to honour the Queen are also encouraged to observe the one-minute silence at 8pm local time.
An official spokesperson for Liz Truss said: "We encourage local community groups, clubs and other organisations to mark this moment of reflection. And if you are overseas, people are encouraged to mark the silence at their local time. The shared national moment of reflection is an opportunity for everyone across the UK to mark the death of Her Majesty and we will set out details of where the prime minister will mark it closer to that time."
Tonight's minute silence comes the night before the Queen's state funeral as the last hopefuls queue to attend the lying-in-state. Thousands of people have queued since Wednesday to pass the Queen's coffin and pay their respects to Her Majesty, with the final members due to pass through before 6:30am tomorrow (19 September), when the lying-in-state ends.
The Queen's funeral will begin at 11am tomorrow, with dignitaries from around the world flying to the UK to attend. Countries from the Commonwealth have been invited to bring special guests, while other nations have received an invitation for their head of state and one guest.
Huge crowds are expected outside Westminster Abbey tomorrow during the funeral service.
