When will the Dolphins next avoid being a double-digit underdog?

Hold on tight. This ride is about to get bumpy. The Dolphins were steamrolled on Sunday by the Baltimore Ravens, losing by a grand total of 49 points. That’s going to leave a mark. And shortly after the Sunday night game finished, the spread was released for the Dolphins’ Week 2 contest against the New England Patriots. That divide started at 14, and it’s now grown to 18.5.

Please forgive the spoilers, but the Miami Dolphins are very unlikely to beat the Patriots on Sunday. And instead of questioning when the first victory will come, the question should rather be focused on addressing when the bettors will next see Miami as having a reasonable chance to win.

Miami is titanic underdogs this week and the following weekend they play in Dallas. The Cowboys looked almost as good as the Patriots did this past weekend in a dismantling of the New York Giants. Miami, on the road, will certainly be massive underdogs there, too. And the following week? The Dolphins host the Chargers — who were 12-4 last season and entering their third season under head coach Anthony Lynn.

In short, it’s probably going to be the middle of October before the Dolphins are anything less than double digit underdogs again. And rightfully so — this gauntlet throws them into the teeth of Super Bowl contenders for four consecutive weeks, with Miami just trying to hold on tight and get through a self inflicted season.

A home contest against Washington on October 13th looms as Miami’s next best chance for bettors to get anything close to the +7 the Ravens entered Hard Rock Stadium with on Sunday afternoon.
