Clocks go back October 2021: What day will it happen?

The days are getting shorter and the weather's growing colder as summer has officially ended.

Autumn is well and truly here and it's drawing us closer to winter.

As the weather grows chilly, this can mean only one thing — it's almost time for the clocks to go back.

Although this means an extra hour in bed, it also means days will be darker and the sunset will begin at around 4pm in some areas of the UK.

Here's everything you need to know about the clocks going back, including what day it will happen.

When will the clocks go back?

Temperatures have started to fall across the UK (MDM)

In the UK, the clocks always go back by one hour at 2am on the final Sunday of October.

This means that the clocks will go back on Halloween this year — Sunday 31st October 2021.

Thankfully, we'll get an extra hour in bed to help us through the first Monday of November, and for many, an extra hour in fancy dress!

The change in clocks allows us to enjoy slightly brighter mornings, and longer cosy evenings.

Here in the UK, we put the clocks back to give ourselves an extra hour of light in autumn and winter.

When clocks change in late October, we shift from BST (British Summer Time) to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).

There have been attempts to change how we adjust clocks before.

Between 1968 and 1971, Brits kept the clocks one hour ahead of GMT all year round - however this saw an increase in injuries so it was decided we'd stick to the standard seasonal clock changes!
