When will the Britain's Got Talent live shows return?

This weekend sees the last batch of pre-recorded auditions of Britain's Got Talent and fans will now have to wait for the live shows.

Because of coronavirus, the semi-finals and final have had to be postponed.

The hit ITV talent contest has always held auditions for the judges to choose from thousands of hopefuls wanting to perform for the royal family at the Royal Variety Show.

The auditions are usually immediately followed by the semi-finals and grand final.

The semi-finals were set to take place over the half-term week but are on hold while the UK remains in lockdown.

ITV has confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that they hope to bring BGT back later in the year for the live shows.

Fans have aired their concerns about waiting for the popular contest, which is now on its fourteenth series, to resume as applications open for the 2021 series.

"We’re gonna have forgotten all these acts by the time we ever get round to the live shows," tweeted one.

"It's a shame really that the live shows can't be without an audience," said another. "Especially when SNT (Saturday Night Takeaway) found this successful.

"Nevertheless I hope the live shows return before the Strictly bug kicks in."

When COVID-19 lockdown guidelines were announced in March it meant changes to a number of TV shows including Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, who also present BGT, continued at first without a live audience before moving to presenting the flagship family entertainment show from their homes.
