Susie Dent is absent from Countdown for the remainder of this week’s episodes.
Having appeared in Dictionary Corner on the game show every year since 1992, the lexicographer and etymologist is a staple and much-adored presence.
Viewers were struck by how both Dent and her colleague Rachel Riley were missing from the episode, and while Riley’s absence could be easily explained, the same couldn’t be said for Dent.
Riley is currently on maternity leave after welcoming her second child with husband Pasha Kovalev in November.
Here’s everything you need to know as to why Susie Dent is missing from Countdown.
Why is Susie Dent missing from Countdown?
Countdown host Anne Robinson addressed Dent’s absence on Monday afternoon so that viewers were well aware of what was happening.
She explained: “As you can see, Susie’s not here. She’s away having a Covid test.”
Robinson then introduced Adrian Chiles, who then took over Susie’s role for the day.
When will Susie Dent be back on Countdown?
Susie Dent will be returning on screen on Monday 20th December, according to Channel 4.
Although she only missed one day of recording waiting for a test, five episodes were shot without her.
