When will RTE's Tommy Tiernan Show be back on? All we know so far ahead of unique return

The Tommy Tiernan Show is the latest RTE favourite announced to be returning to Irish tellies this winter after the fifth series came to end back in April.

RTE funnyman Tommy Tiernan is renowned for the interview chatshow where he welcomes a wide variety of guests without any prior knowledge of who he is speaking to.

Fans of the Navan comedian will be pleased to hear that the show will be airing again in the new year marking the sixth season of The Tommy Tiernan show to grace our screens.

Viewers will be able to catch Tommy when he returns for his Christmas special on January 2, 2022 with the sixth season likely to be back on telly in its usual Saturday-night slot for the new year.

It’s no surprise that RTE has booked another season of the Tommy Tiernan Show either, as it drew huge numbers of viewers every week.

The comic finished off the last episode of the fifth series with an average audience of 443,000. And the week before saw viewership of over 500,000.

The latest season saw Tommy host an excellent variety of guests from celebrities, activists, musicians, and so-called "normal" people that had an incredible story to tell.

The show was so popular that it prompted RTE to add a further six episodes, extending the season to 16 episodes during lockdown.

In terms of memorable interviews in Season 5, Tiernan's chats with Brenda Fricker, Sean Boylan, Eamon Dunphy, Zak Moradi, Stephen Rea, Sinead Burke, Dr Sinead Kane, Brian O'Driscoll, Baz Ashmawy, Anne Doyle, Ardal O'Hanlon, Prof Ciaran Bolger, Helen Behan, Donnacha O'Callaghan, Liam Cunningham, Senator Lynn Ruane and Neil Jordan were all special moments.

While the show ended for the summer, fans were able to watch Tommy in action when he played a small role in RTE comedy drama Dark Lies, and catch up with the comic on his podcast with fellow Navan man Hector Ó hEochagáin and Laurita Blewitt.
