When will Rangers lift the Premiership title and the likely opponents for trophy day

It's likely to be a more low-key affair than the bedlam that ensued on March 7 but Rangers fans are itching to mark the day the league returns Ibrox in its silver form.

Trophy day will be a chance for fans to pause and reflect on the journey they've been on amid the euphoria of finally seeing the Premiership title draped in red, blue and white ribbons.

And when the race is wrapped up early doors - one round before this Sunday's derby against Celtic - it removes a number of potential headaches for the ceremonial team.

After all, no helicopters are required when the title is done and dusted by March.

Record Sport understands it's likely to take place on the final weekend of the season on May 15/16 - but because of how early the league was wrapped up, it could be brought forward.

It's expected that after that game James Tavernier will lift the club's 55th crown under a shower of confetti.

The identity of the opposition in that match is not yet known, nor the date or kick-off time, with Premiership post-split fixtures yet to be announced by the SPFL.

Given recent chatter over fears around fans gathering outside stadiums ahead of this weekend's derby, it seems very unlikely that the SPFL would decide to roll two big days in the season into one and hand over the trophy after playing Celtic at home.

So out of the current top six, Rangers are due a home game against Hibs, Aberdeen and Livingston - though Scottish football fans will know the way the split doesn't always hand every team a fair number of home and away fixtures.

All will be revealed when the league publish the post-split matches - but we've got a derby to tend to before that bridge can be crossed.
