When will pubs be open again after the coronavirus lockdown

Pubs across the UK are expected to be among the last businesses to exit lockdown.

Since March, the hospitality sector has been shut, as people are urged to stay inside and protect the NHS.

Pubs encourage the public to socialise in small spaces, making them the perfect breeding ground for COVID-19.

One person could infect countless strangers, who would then each carry the virus to their own families, co-workers and friends.

It's therefore unlikely that pubs will open until the coronavirus crisis has substantially subsided, reports the Mirror.

Asked about when pubs and restaurants would be back in business, Michael Gove told Andrew Marr: "The other inference that I draw from your question, which is that areas of hospitality will be among the last to exit the lockdown - yes, that is true, they will be among the last."

It comes after Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon published a document saying the lifting of restrictions in Scotland will be a phased process, with pubs among the last things to reopen.

There is no official date for pubs to reopen, and the government has refused to rule out the possibility that they'll be closed until Christmas.

It's thought that the lockdown will be relaxed in stages, with restrictions gradually lifted from June.

It's likely that essential businesses will be allowed to reopen first, and it's also possible that different areas of the country will have different rules lifted at different times.

Vulnerable people may also be asked to remain in their homes for longer, while younger people with no health conditions could be allowed to return to work.

The government has suggested that the hospitality industry will be one of the last to get back to normal.
