When will Nottingham's cinemas reopen? Plans for Broadway, Cineworld, Showcase, Odeon and more

Cinemas are almost ready to roll credits on lockdown with many movie theatres preparing to welcome back film-goers sometime next month (all being well, of course).

While clearly dependent on many factors, the Government has proposed July 4 as a potential date for a section of leisure and hospitality businesses to reopen, providing social distancing and other safety measures can be implemented.

Some cinema chains have already confirmed they would be working towards opening their doors on this date while others have plans to reopen a little later in the month.

Regardless of when they do once again press play on screenings, the experience will look a lot different to cinema-goers.

Across the board safety and social distancing measures include advance bookings only, reduced capacity in auditoriums and hand sanitiser stations throughout buildings.

Cineworld in Nottingham (Google)

Cineworld at The Cornerhouse, Nottingham

Cineworld plans to reopen all branches in England on July 10 with a new digital bookings system that will involve visitors checking in before watching a film.

Other measures will include updated seating maps to space viewers out, film start and end times will be staggered to reduce customer interaction, while plastic screens will be placed at the till and PPE will be provided to employees.

Showcase Cinema De Lux, Redfield Way, Nottingham

The cinema chain, which has 21 theatres including a site at Redfield Way, in Lenton, will be welcoming patrons back through its doors on July 4.

Safety measures will include a restricted capacity in each auditorium and staggered film start times as well as Perspex shields at till points and hand sanitiser stations located throughout.

Cinema-goers will only be able to buy tickets in advance online and the venue will only be accepting contactless payment onsite.

The Arc Cinema, High Street, Hucknall

The new £3 million Arc Cinema has taken over the premises of the former old Byron movie theatre in High Street, Hucknall.

Bosses originally intended for the four-screen multiplex to open at the end of March but following coronavirus lockdown measures its launch date was moved to Saturday July 4, the first date the UK Government said cinemas in England are allowed to open.

The final preparations have now been carried out to ensure the cinema is ready to welcome film fans as soon as allowed with all the necessary safety features in place to cope with the ongoing social distancing requirements.

Odeon, Mansfield & Newark

Odeon, which has 120 sites in the UK, has said it will be hoping to reopen in early July, as long as it has enough films to show and the government guidance permits it.

A statement from Odeon said: "We continue to make good progress in our plans for reopening cinemas in the UK and across Europe.

"We are working closely with national cinema associations and Governments as we introduce additional health and safety protocols across all of our sites.

"These new protocols are being introduced to reassure our guests and ensure that they can enjoy the cinema experience in the safest and most controlled environment.

"We will be ready to welcome guests back from early July, but the reopening of our cinemas will be dependent on having a strong line-up of films in place for our guests to enjoy. Currently this begins with Tenet and Mulan."

The Savoy, Derby Road, Nottingham

Nottinghamshire Live has contacted The Savoy cinema to ask if there's any plans in place to reopen next month.

Broadway, Broad Street, Nottingham

At the moment the plan is for Broadway to reopen in September. Staff are currently working around the clock to make sure they're ready to deliver the safest cinema experience.
