When will Nicola Sturgeon make an announcement on lockdown restrictions?

Nicola Sturgeon is set to announce new lockdown measures to tackle coronavirus following a recent spike in infections.

The First Minister indicated that new restrictions would be announced today or tomorrow following 'urgent' discussions.

She will address the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood later today following an emergency COBRA meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Leaders in Wales and Northern Ireland will also take part in the discussion in a bid to find a UK-wide approach following a recent spike in infections.

Cases across the country have increased over the last two weeks as different parts of the economy open up for the first time since late March.

Over the previous 24-hour period, 255 new cases of the deadly virus were identified in Scotland.

Here is where you can watch the briefing today and what changes we may see:

Sturgeon will make an announcement to the Scottish Parliament at around 2.20pm today.

The First Minister will be announcing the latest number of cases across Scotland and some of the new measures that will be put in place.

The announcement will be live on BBC One Scotland.

She will then speak to the nation in a televised address at around 8.05pm after Boris Johnson speaks to the UK about restrictions.

During her daily briefing on Monday, she said lockdown restrictions would "almost certainly" be put in place in Scotland in the next 48 hours.

Yesterday afternoon it was announced that the UK's coronavirus alert level had moved to four - meaning the virus is "high or rising exponentially".

Sturgeon said the Scottish Government will aim to avoid a full-scale lockdown such as the one imposed in March.
