When will my local pub reopen? A guide as pubs plan early reopening with restaurant licences

Four out of 10 pubs in Dublin are planning to reopen as restaurants on June 29, a survey has shown.

A loophole in the opening roadmap means that those with a restaurant cert can open their doors 42 days before August 10th when pubs are listed on the roadmap.

However these pubs will have to operate as restaurants and while alcohol can be served it will be mainly a food dining experience.

This will leave a lot of people curious as to whether their local has a restaurant cert and will be able to open that bit earlier.

Here's how to tell if your local pub already has a restaurant license;

What pubs have restaurant license?

Any pub that serves "substantial meals" must have a restaurant cert and therefore would be able to open on June 29 as a restaurant.

A survey by the Licensed Vintners Association revealed that food is available from more than seven out of every 10 Dublin pubs, with 72% confirming they serve food on their premises.

The LVA are advocating that all pubs that serve food be allowed open on 29 June on the same basis as restaurants.

Will my local pub open?

That decision will be down to the pub owner whether they deem it safe, can practice social distancing and are willing to run it only as a restaurant.

The figures revealed in a survey conducted by the LVA between Monday 18 May and Tuesday 19 May, show 44% of pubs intend to reopen on June 29.

When applied to the 750 pubs located across the capital, that means approximately 330 are planning to reopen.  These pubs have restaurant certificates and accordingly are licensed restaurants.

Will you be allowed go in solely for a pint?

Under the current restaurant cert rules you would be allowed to head into the pub solely for a pint.

This is however a grey area and the majority of places will be looking for Government guidance before June 29 as to what they can and cannot do.

But at this moment in time the cert would allow for people to get a pint without food.
