When will Love Island be back? ITV confirm summer series is cancelled

There was a 'text' of an upsetting variety on Monday morning when ITV confirmed that the summer series had been cancelled due to coronavirus.

After the hit show' first ever winter run in January, Love Island fans were looking forward to more of the same in June but were dealt a huge blow when a statement was released revealing that it won't be going ahead.

The cancellation is an unwanted first for Love Island, which has been a huge ratings winner for ITV2 since debuting in 2015. Confirming the news, ITV boss Kevin Lygo said: "We have tried every which way to make Love Island this summer but logistically it’s just not possible to produce it in a way that safeguards the wellbeing of everyone involved and that for us is the priority," ITV boss Kevin Lygo confirmed.

"In normal circumstances, we would be preparing very soon to travel out to the location in Mallorca to get the villa ready but clearly that’s now out of the question."

There was some good news for Love Island devotees though as the global coronavirus pandemic doesn't mean it's ended completely..

Kevin added: "“We are very sorry for fans of the show but making it safely is our prime concern and Love Island will be back stronger than ever in 2021. In the meantime Love Island fans can still enjoy all six series of Love Island on BritBox.”
