When will it stop raining? Met Office weather forecast as north west England set to brighten up

It may be July - but here in Greater Manchester, we're no strangers to a bit of rain.

The month got off to a rather damp start after Brits were treated to some proper summer weather in June.

But is the rain here to stay?

Luckily, it looks like the sun could be making another appearance very soon.

Football fans will be delighted to hear that the wet weather is actually set to clear up just in time for the England match tonight.

According to the Met Office, we can expect some much brighter skies across the northwest this evening.

The forecast for today says: "A divide in the weather, with the north of the region seeing sunny skies for most and in the south scattered showers, occasionally heavy and thunder.

"Showers gradually clear during the afternoon, with more sunny spells to follow."

For Manchester, there is expected to be some sunny intervals from around 7pm, and less than a five per cent chance of rain.

Temperatures could even reach 21C in Greater Manchester and neighbouring areas, according to the forecasters.

For tonight, the Met Office predicts "a fine end to the day for most, with plenty of clear spells".

Thursday could bring some showers, but there will be sunshine for most.

The forecast for tomorrow says: "A murky start in places, but soon brightening up, with sunny spells for most areas.

"The odd shower remains possible throughout the day. Feeling cooler than recently."

Friday will be much the same with both scattered showers and sunshine likely in most places, while the weekend could bring further heavy rain.

The Met Office even predicts some more "potentially heavy and thundery" showers for Saturday and Sunday.

But there's more good news towards the end of next week with some drier warmer weather predicted.

"From mid-next week onwards, it is most likely turning increasingly settled with a good deal of dry weather, variable cloud and spells of sunshine," the forecast says.

"For the remainder of this period [July 11 to 20], there is a chance of warmer and drier than average conditions overall."
