When will it stop raining in Greater Manchester? Met Office forecast as region battered by torrential downpours and flooding

It's not quite been raining for 40 days and 40 nights.

But some of the downpours this weekend have felt pretty biblical.

Torrential rain led to flooding and crashes around Greater Manchester on Sunday as the region was battered by Storm Fleur.

Flooding closed parts of the M61 and M66, as well as the A555 Manchester Airport Eastern Link Road.

A number of crashes have also been reported, including an incident on the M60, while flood warnings have been issued for the River Glaze through Leigh and Wigan.

And a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms remains in force for Greater Manchester until 9pm on Sunday.

But the good news is things are looking up for the rest of week.

According to the Met Office's forecast for the North West there's a slight chance of the odd 'heavy and possibly thundery' shower on Monday afternoon, but apart from that the rest of the week looks warm and dry, with temperatures forecast to hit 21°C on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Sunday night the Met Office says 'scattered sharp showers will linger through the evening' with a minimum temperature 11 °C.

Monday will be 'another day of sunny spells and widespread afternoon showers, these heavy and possibly thundery at times before they ease into the evening'. It will be 'breezy throughout', with a maximum temperature of 20°C.

The Met Office forecast for the rest of the week says: "Drier Tuesday, with sunny spells and less frequent showers than recently. Cloudier Wednesday but staying largely dry. Feeling warmer."
