When will it snow again? Hour-by-hour forecast as Met Office issues new weather warning

Many parts of Greater Manchester will have woken up today to blankets of snow covering the streets.

A new yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office covering Greater Manchester, coming into place from 12pm and lasting until midday on Thursday. This means that snow showers and icy stretches are expected to cause travel disruptions all across the North West of England.

While Wednesday will see a break from the snow, with sun dominating most of the early afternoon, the Met Office predicts light snowy spells on Thursday morning, bringing with it even colder temperatures. Temperatures throughout today will remain relatively warm, staying between 4C and 5C before dropping to much colder conditions as it gets dark.

According to the Met Office, Manchester will see a short period of snow from 9am on Thursday morning as temperatures reach 0C but will feel like -2C. However, this is only predicted to last for around an hour based on early predictions.

The Met Office added that the region will see: "A cold and frosty, locally icy start to a mostly dry and largely sunny day, with only a few wintry showers in the far southwest. Windier than recent days, especially around coasts and feeling particularly cold. Maximum temperature 6 °C."

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued a cold weather alert for all regions in England, including Greater Manchester. The warning, which will remain in place until 9am on Friday, January 20, states there will be a risk of icy conditions and some snow across the country this week.

The agency is encouraging people to stay warm and to keep an eye on those most at risk from the cold conditions such as the elderly and those living with severe health conditions.
