When will it next rain as Manchester bakes in 31C - weather forecast

Highs of up to 31C are forecast for Manchester in the coming days as the country sizzles in the second heatwave of the summer. Temperatures have been steadily rising throughout the week and hosepipe bans have even come into force in the south of England.

Although the country won’t experience the same record-breaking temperatures that it saw in July when a scorching 43C was recorded, this heatwave is set to last longer. An extreme heat warning is in place for large parts of the UK, including areas of Greater Manchester, until midnight on Sunday.

The mercury is set to hit 30C by 4pm on Thursday, according to the Met Office, with wall to wall sunshine forecast throughout the day. It will stay warm throughout the night with temperatures only dropping to 21C at 5am on Friday morning.

Friday afternoon will see similar highs of 30C and there will be little respite from the heat overnight with a low of 19C forecast for early Saturday morning. It will remain hot over the weekend, with temperatures expected to reach the high 20s for Saturday and Sunday.

With dry conditions and lawns drying up, many will be hoping for some much-needed rain and relief from the hot temperatures. Thunderstorms are expected to hit Manchester on Monday afternoon and heavy showers are forecast throughout the evening.

Showers are forecast throughout Tuesday and it will be a cooler day, with a high of just 20C forecast. It will be cooler still on Wednesday, although a much drier day.

In its UK long range forecast for Monday August 15 until Wednesday August 24, the Met Office said: “This period will see the breakdown of the hot, sunny and dry weather of recent days, with conditions becoming more unsettled across the UK. Showers will spread from the west and south next week, sometimes heavy and thundery, though drier periods with sunny spells are still likely between them.”
