When will I get my €200 energy credit off my bill? Dates announced for Electric Ireland, Energia, PrePay Power and more

Irish households are in for a cash boost as they are set to be paid the first €200 electricity credit from next week.

Around 2.25 million domestic electricity customers will automatically receive the sum off their energy bills after November 1.

It is the first of three energy credits worth €600 in total, to be paid in three €200 instalments over the winter, which were announced in Budget 2023 to help ease the effects of the cost-of-living crisis.

Irish electricity providers have explained that no action will be required by account holders and the credit will be applied automatically, RSVP report.

But the exact date the payment will be applied can vary, depending on what electricity provider you are with.

Here's everything you need to know about how and when you will get your €200 electricity credit this autumn.

What date will I get it?

The date you will receive the credit depends on your electricity provider.

Electric Ireland has confirmed that the credit will be taken from accounts from the 1st of November, writing on their website: "The first credit instalment of €200 (€183.47 + €16.53 VAT) will start to be available from November 1, 2022.

“Some households may not be able to view this credit on your bill until December or January depending on when you are due to bill. However, you can view the credit on your online account from November 1, 2022."

Energia have simply said: "The first payment will be made in November 2022."

SSE Airtricity confirmed when customers could expect to see the credit, saying: "SSE Airtricity will credit customer accounts between 1 November 2022 – 31 December 2022 for the first payment... However, the credit may not appear on a customers’ bill until the following month during these payment periods, this will depend on individual customer billing cycles."

Bord Gais have not confirmed the detials.

Prepay Power have confirmed dates, writing: "You will recieve your first €200 payment of government electricity credit between November 1st and 11th."

Some households may get it later than November

Some households will be expected to wait longer to see the benefits of the payment, depending on the billing date of their household.

Citizens Information have written: "The first instalment between 1 November and 31 December 2022," so households should receive it before the new year, but as some providers have said, they may not see it on their bills till January or later.

Exactly how much will I get?

The energy credit amount is €200 including VAT. It will appear on your bill as €183.49, which is excluding VAT.
