Ireland's vaccination programme has been rocked after the State’s advisory body said the AstraZeneca jab should only be given to those aged over 60.
Officials said they expect 180,000 more people will get an inoculation this week.
The National Immunisation Advisory Committee made the recommendation after Europe’s health watchdog the EMA last week found a link between the AZ vaccine and rare blood clots in adults, particularly the young.
It said the benefits versus the risks may vary by age and as alternative vaccines are available, it has revised recommendations.
NIAC said these rare events are estimated to occur between four and 10 in every one million people, one of whom may die.
Deputy chief medical officer Dr Ronan Glynn said the change does not necessarily mean there will be a delay to the vaccination programme.
"It will likely have an impact - the extent of that impact, though, remains to be seen," he said.
"It's not necessarily the case that this will have a material impact or delay on the rollout of the programme at a population level."
314,216 people were fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by last Sunday.
There have been 749,450 first doses given under the national programme.
It brings the total number of doses given to over 1.06 million.

But the question on everyone's lips right now is simple, when will I get one?
While an exact answer will depend on supply and the speed of rollout, the Government has released a priority list showing which groups will get the jab first, and who will have to wait until the end.
However for a concrete idea of what this means for each individual, we need to know how many people are ahead of us in the line, and how long we may need to wait.
And we can now get a solid estimate thanks to a new interactive calculator created by two maths experts.

Steven Wooding, who is based in Southampton and holds a MPhys in Physics, created the project alongside Maciej Kowalski, a PhD student in Mathematics at the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The calculator estimates where you are in the queue to receive a COVID vaccine in Ireland.
It is based on the priority list released by the Irish government.
