When will hairdressers reopen in the UK after coronavirus lockdown?

As the coronavirus lockdown continues, people are having to make some tricky decisions about their hair.

While some are choosing to cut it themselves - often with disastrous results - others are waiting it out and hoping they can visit a professional sooner rather than later.

Hairdressers have been shut since the UK went into lockdown in March.

People are only supposed to leave their home to exercise, help a vulnerable person, buy groceries or go to work - and only if their job cannot be done from home.

Many staff have been placed on furlough, with the government paying 80% of their wages while they cannot work.

But when will hairdressers reopen?

When will hairdressers open in the UK?

There is not a set date for hairdressers to be reopened in the UK.

The UK lockdown will be eased in stages, but all non-essential shops and businesses will remain closed until at least June.

Hairdressers will remain closed until at least 1 July.

There was some concern that hairdressers would have to remain closed for six months, as opening them would risk spreading coronavirus and infecting more people.

In other European countries, such as Denmark and Spain, hairdressers have been among the first businesses to reopen as restrictions relax.

In the meantime, you may be able to support your local hairdresser or salon by buying a gift card to be used once they are open again.

It's also very likely that hairdressers will be extremely busy once they reopen, so prepare to be on a waiting list!.
