When will Glasgow go to Level 2 restrictions as lockdown decision due this week

Glasgow is currently the only area in Scotland at Level 3 restrictions after a spike in infections across certain postcodes.

Nicola Sturgeon announced last week the city would not move down to Level 2, dashing hopes of rules easing in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Under current Level 3 restrictions, people are not able to meet others indoors, hug relatives, or drink alcohol inside in pubs and restaurants.

Travel restrictions are also in place in and out of the city, with the rest of Scotland now at either Level 2 or 1.

Glaswegians are no doubt desperate to join the rest of Scotland in the routemap out of lockdown after months of strict measures to curb the virus.

When will Glasgow move to Level 2 restrictions?

In a statement last week, the First Minister said Glasgow could move to Level 2 restrictions from Saturday, June 5 - but only if the virus remains under control.

She said: "If the massive public health efforts continue to have an impact; if our collective efforts to drive the virus back continue; then from next Saturday – Friday into Saturday - 5 June – the plan would be for the city to move to Level 2."

The Scottish Government is due to make a decision on Wednesday, June 2 on whether the city can safely move down a tier.

Deputy First Minister John Swinney said on Sunday he is “optimistic” Glasgow will move out of level 3 lockdown at the end of the week.

Sturgeon added: "My message to the people of Glasgow is don’t lose heart – on the contrary take heart from the progress that we are seeing,” she said.

“I live in Glasgow, so I know how hard this is from my own personal life, but please continue to help with all the public health efforts.”

When will mainland Scotland move to Level 1?

Mainland Scotland is due to move to Level 1 of the tier system on June 7.

In a statement last week, the First Minister said the decision on whether the rest of the country can move to the next stage of the roadmap.

A decision is also due to be made on current hotspots where cases have increased recently – in particular Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Clackmannanshire.

These areas have been allowed to stay in Level 2 restrictions, with an update on the situation due next week.
