When will Futurama return as Disney confirms new season of the animated show?

Matt Groening’s classic animated comedy about a pizza delivery guy being sent a thousand years into the future is returning to TV screens for the third time.

Futurama - The Simpson's creator's sci-fi cartoon series - has had a rocky past. While it is a fan favourite the show has been cancelled multiple times but Disney is once again bringing the show back.

While most of the original cast will be returning to the cult show, John DiMaggio (who voiced Bender, the beer-drinking, cigar-smoking, foul-mouthed robot) has not yet been scheduled to make a reappearance and will instead be recast.

Deadline report that DiMaggio “was the one notable absence from today’s announcement, after failing to agree to a deal with Futurama studio 20th Television Animation, similar to that negotiated for his fellow leads West and Sagal".

Original writers and developers Matt Groening and David X. Cohen will be returning to the production, which first aired back in 1999.

The new deal is reported to be for at least twenty new episodes of the show.

When is the Futurama due to return?

The show (which was last revived in 2010) is due to make a comeback to the US streaming service Hulu sometime in 2023.

Where is the new Futurama series likely to stream in the UK?

Currently, the previous episodes of Futurama are available on Disney+ and, as Hulu isn’t available in the UK, this is likely to be where the new series ends up (the show’s production company, 20th Television Animation, is also affiliated with Disney Television Studios).
