When will England's 2022 World Cup kit be released?

England's run at EURO 2020 saw stocks of the white home shirt fly off the shelves.

After the semi-final defeat against Denmark, shirts were sold out as retailers including kit manufacturer Nike, as well as the official England FA Shop, struggled to keep up with the demand.

Opportunists on auction site eBay inevitably took advantage, pricing the shirt at close to £300 for those desperate enough to pay a premium.

Following defeat in the final, stocks were replenished, but demand had subsided.

Tonight, Gareth Southgate's side take on Hungary in their fourth World Cup qualifier. Further games are also scheduled over the next six days against Andorra and Poland.

During the three upcoming matches, England will wear the same kit they did throughout the past summer's "nearly" tournament.

So far, England are 3 for 3 with little in the group by way of competition. Barring disaster, they will qualify as group leaders and head into 2022 among the favourites for the Qatar World Cup.

England's very first football kit lasted 30 years between 1872 and 1902.

But long gone are the days where fans could get such value for money!

International kits, with a two-year tournament cycle, offer fans slightly more than club kits when it comes to longevity.

A six-month coronavirus-related delay to the release of England's EURO 2020 kit is likely to mean the latest effort is short-lasting.

England's last World Cup qualifier takes place against San Marino on November 15. The new kit can be expected any time from March 2022, although this may be pushed back with next year's World Cup taking place in the winter.

The last home shirt to offer a significant variation on those that followed was the 2001-03 Umbro kit that sported a long red stripe from top to bottom across the crest.

What we do know is that either England's away or third kit will be turquoise in colour, in line with their recently signed sponsorship deal with Deliveroo.
