When will Covid rules be lifted? Boris Johnson makes bombshell restrictions announcement

All remaining Covid-19 restrictions - including the legal requirement to self-isolate - will be lifted by the end of February, Boris Johnson has announced.

Speaking in the commons, Johnson said: "It is my intention to return on the first day after the half-term recess to present our strategy for living with Covid. Provided the current encouraging trends in the data continue, it is my expectation that we will be able to end the last domestic restrictions, including the legal requirement to self-isolate if you test positive, a full month early."

Johnson previously announced his intention to repeal the measures on March 24, so that would put the end to all measures on or around February 24.

He did not give any more details regarding his plan.

There are few remaining Covid restrictions left, other than the requirement to self-isolate if you test positive for Covid or if you come into contact with someone who does and you're not fully vaccinated.

It is unclear if the requirements on people coming into the country will change, though Johnson's use of the word "domestic" would suggest not.

Coronavirus cases have continued to decline in recent weeks, albeit from a very high level. Just over 66,000 cases were reported yesterday, along with 314 deaths.
