Barcelona have been away from Camp Nou since the start of the 2023-24 season and fans are eagerly awaiting a return to the famous stadium.
The club have run into delays throughout their renovation of their home ground, which will expand its capacity to 105,000 as well as upgrading and modernising facilities.
In the meantime, Barcelona have been playing at the Stadi Olímpic, which as the name would suggest was built for the 1992 summer Olympics and was the home of rivals Espanyol for a spell.
When will Barcelona move back to Camp Nou?
The Camp Nou renovations began in summer 2023 and Barca originally hoped they would be able to move back in by December 2024, before the renovations were complete.
However, UEFA regulations preventing them from making the change during the Champions League league phase and the cost of a mid-season transition led Barcelona to announce in November that the move back to Camp Nou would be delayed.
The following month it emerged that the new target of March 2025 would also be missed, and Barcelona have since confirmed they will not be returning home before the end of the 2024/25 season.
As of May 2025, the pitch has now been fully installed and the latest reports suggest that Barcelona hope to be able to move back into Camp Nou in September 2025.
The renovations are still unlikely to be complete by then, however, and Barcelona are set to return to a reduced capacity while the renovations continue. Work is currently expected to be completed by summer 2026.

Computer-generated images were initially released on Barcelona’s website that show the scale of the stadium’s development. It will be noticeably larger, with a more modern aesthetic and an impressive dome-shaped roof.
The Barcelona badge and Spotify logo are also built into the seats, while several huge screens above the top tier will ensure no one misses any of the action. Over 1,200 workers have been employed to renovate Camp Nou, and the original total cost of the project was estimated at €1.5 billion.
In May 2025, Barcelona released a timelapse video of the pitch being installed, which gives us a significant look at how the renovation is progressing.
The roof is still not in place, leaving the bowl of the stadium totally exposed. It is unlikely that the entire roof will be in place by September, when the club currently hope to be able to move back in.
