When wedding venue at historic Bestwood Pumping Station will open - featuring spectacular viewing tower

A wedding venue remains on course to open later this year at the site of a historic former pumping station undergoing a major refurbishment.

The conversion will also create two restaurants and a bar, called The Lakeside, at the site off Mansfield Road, in Bestwood.

With a capacity for 250 people, the wedding venue is planned for the ground floor and a tower will provide spectacular views of the area.

Architectural and interior design company, DL Design Studio, was commissioned by Newera Partnership Limited to apply to Gedling Borough Council for listed building consent, to allow for the refurbishment.

Dan Lacey, of DL Design Studio, said: “The attention to detail on this refurbishment project has been second to none.

"This building deserves to be restored with dignity and creativity."

The developers are preparing the inside for the start of works to do with the wedding venue and restaurant.

The site is located off the A60 Mansfield Road, near the Bestwood Lodge Hotel - and the opening is planned for autumn/winter of this year.

The nearby lake has been cleared - and both the grounds and parkland will be open to the public.

The owners, Richard Berridge and Amy Harrad, spoke highly of their project.

Mr Berridge, of Newera Partnership Limited, said: “The interest and feedback we have received from the local community has been wonderful.

"Our vision for The Lakeside has always been local people employed to renovate the development.

"Local people will be employed here, and local people will enjoy the beautiful lake and parkland.”

Ms Harrad, of Newera Partnership Limited, added: “The Lakeside renovation is a labour of love for us and everyone who is involved in the restoration.

"And it shows in every detail of this project.”

A heritage statement, submitted as part of the application earlier this year, read: "Bestwood Pumping Station was built between 1871 and 1874 and operated until the mid-60s.

"It was commissioned by the Nottingham Water Company and designed by Thomas Hawksley.

"Several of the structures on site are listed including the pump house, lodges, landscaped ornamental cooling pond, several cast-iron lamps and the boundary walls."

The main pumping station building is Grade II*-listed - and the rest of the listed structures on site are Grade II-listed.

The building closed in 2017 and it was reported in July 2018 that the venue was being sold.

As the coronavirus lockdown restrictions ease, wedding receptions will be allowed from August 1 - as long as they are for less than 30 guests.
