Greater Manchester will head to the polls to vote for a regional mayor on Thursday, May 6.
The mayoral election was scheduled to take place in May 2020 but was postponed, along with a number of other local votes, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Eight candidates will be on the ballot paper alongside incumbent mayor Andy Burnham and it will be the second time the region has taken to the polls to choose a mayor.
But how long has it been since the last mayoral election in the Greater Manchester region?
Mr Burnham, the Labour and Co-operative Party candidate, won the title four years ago and took office on May 8, 2017.
The electoral system used for the regional mayoral elections is the supplementary vote, which allows voters to pick a first and second choice of candidates.
The last vote took place on May 4 in 2017 with the Labour victor winning 63.4 per cent of the total vote in the first round, and majorities in every borough of Greater Manchester.
In total, 573,543 votes were cast in the election - 359,352 of which went to Mr Burnham.
Turnout in the Greater Manchester poll was the highest in any mayoral vote across the country - at 29 per cent.
Mr Burnham, who was previously the MP for Leigh, served in former prime minister Gordon Brown's Cabinet as health secretary and culture secretary.
His election campaign in 2017 focused heavily on the issue of rough sleeping and homelessness in Greater Manchester.
Mr Burnham will be facing eight other candidates in this year's election including former Trafford councillor Laura Evans, who is standing for the Conservatives, and Liberal Democrat Simon Lepori, who has been a candidate in council elections and the 2019 general election.
