Facebook. It's not just there for the nasty things in life, like the moral ambiguity of being 'poked' by your boss, the increased chance of happening across your ex-boyfriend's wedding photos, or the chance to put information in the public sphere that could later get you fired, dumped or, if you're particularly exciting, arrested.
No, it's also there for beautiful human connections, like championing the cause of one of your best friends after their premiership footballer boyfriend has left them for another. Or so say a bunch of other footballers girlfriends (and wives, obv) in their dedicated Facebook group, CHARLOTTE OVER DANIELLE ANY DAY* (because things mean so much more when you use capitals, don't you find?)
Of course, it's not just a sphere for people to lend a public and vocal support to their abandoned mate - it also happens to double as a handy repository for people to be really viciously, angrily bitchy about poor Charlotte's usurper. Just swearwords flying left, right and centre...
...And not just from the group's high-profile founders and their celebrity mates (well, someone from Big Brother and a couple of Page 3 girls), but more aggressively still from everyday young women who just want to show their allegiance to ... well, to anyone more famous than them, it seems, by adding horrendously unsisterly words as captions on anyone's photo they're told not to like.
But, you know, it's not meant to be a negative thing. As the founders of the group say in their opening statement:
'This group is not here for jealousy, we are all comfortable that we are more attractive and nicer people than Danielle; it is just in support of Charlotte, who is better off away from Jermain and Danielle and to highlight how stupid Jermain is for not seeing he is being used.'
Which, I think we can all agree, is clearly not bitchy at all.
Good old social networking, eh?
*Yes, you would need to log in to Facebook to see this link, so if you haven't got a Facebook account, you'll be missing out... hardly at all. Sorry, though.
