When Vuitton met Fornasetti: LV’s autumn/ winter ‘21 show debuts mega new fashion collaboration

Louis Vuitton brought Paris Fashion Week to a close today with a show that took inspiration from Ancient Greece, and debuted a new collaboration with Italian interiors label Fornasetti.

Filmed in the deserted Michelangelo and Daru Galleries of the Louvre in Paris, Nicolas Ghesquière’s vision for our post-lockdown looks took inspiration from the founders of civilisation themselves.

Thick tread-soled satin boots came with leather criss-cross straps reminiscent of Grecian sandals, while supersized Gladiator-like dresses came in sporty neoprene and back-to-front hoodies were printed with the classic Greek key motif.

The French house debuted a new collaboration with the estate of Piero Fornasetti whose witty, surreal hand-painted faces and animals, many of which were themselves inspired by antiquity, took on new life in oversized stamp-printed jacquard coats, shiny jersey tops thermal-printed with ancient statues, velvet dresses and sure-to-be-sell-out bags.

“I am particularly drawn to the way Fornasetti re-explored and re-worked the heritage of classicism and ancient Rome,” said Ghesquière in his notes.

“Exploring the Fornasetti archives had the excitement of an archaeological dig, searching for and finding drawings from the past to give them a new life for Louis Vuitton.”
