When Voi scooters will be disabled over New Year in Bristol

Voi have announced when their scooters will be disabled over the New Year period.

The e-scooter company has become a transport necessity for many Bristol people since their trial began in the city in October 2020.

Swedish firm Voi Technologies said a higher proportion of people were using the e-scooters in Bristol than in any other place in Europe where their hire scheme operates.

But people will not be able to hire the scooters at certain times, according to a 'major alert' on Travelwest's website.

The website says that the vehicles were disabled from 9pm on December 24 until 8am on December 25.

They will also be deactivated from 9pm on December 31 until 8am on January 1.

The Voi scooter trial is one of around a dozen taking place across the country which are being co-ordinated by the government, as it seeks to discover if the use of e-scooters is safe.

The trial in Bristol was initially supposed to be for a year, but it has been extended for at least another six months, to March 2022.

In the first 12 months of the trial, Voi's scooters were unlocked and ridden almost 2.5 million times in Bristol and Bath.
