When Tommy Fury v Jake Paul could be rescheduled as Frank Warren gives update

Frank Warren has suggested a fight between Tommy Fury and Jake Paul could still happen in the New Year despite the cancellation of their original bout.

The pair were set to meet later this month in Florida after agreeing a lucrative deal following weeks of trading barbs over social media.

Fury though has now pulled out of the contest, less than two weeks before the December 18 fight was set to go ahead, citing a chest infection and broken rib.

Paul will now face Tyron Woodley in a rematch of their August bout, with the former UFC champion replacing Fury on the Florida show’s card.

It is unclear whether Fury will get another shot at facing Paul, with the Manchester-born fighter missing out on what would have been the biggest pay day of his career so far.

But promoter Frank Warren has suggested the bout could be reorganised, with the Fury camp looking to get it confirmed as soon as possible.

“We are gutted for Tommy. This was a big opportunity for him to show the world what he can do,” Warren said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, he’s had to withdraw now as he’s clearly not anywhere near a hundred per cent.

“We’ll be working with Jake Paul’s team to see if we can reschedule for the New Year.”

Warren’s statement comes after Fury broke his silence on the cancellation, and reiterated his desire to get the fight on.

"I am absolutely heartbroken that I have been forced to withdraw from my fight with Jake Paul due to a bacterial chest infection and broken rib,” Fury said.

"The beginning of my camp was going so incredibly and I never expected anything to come in my way from a victory on December 18.

"I can't express now disappointed I am and I really do hope we can get this fight rescheduled in the New Year. I want this fight to happen more than anything.

"I'm now regretfully putting my focus on recovery and a further reschedule date."
