The festive season has drawn to a close for another year and it means you may be thinking about packing up your decorations. And one big job you may be dreading? Taking down your Christmas tree.
Whether you are keen to get your home back to 'normal' or you are holding onto some Christmas spirit through your beautifully decorated festive centrepiece, it needs to come down at some point.
But what should you do with your real tree when you are finished with it and is there a correct date to pack up? According to Good House Keeping the answer is yes.

When should I take my Christmas tree and decorations down?
The experts state that people should take their Christmas trees down either on January 5 or January 6.
They explain: "Dating back to the fourth century, many Christians have marked the end of the Christmas season on the Twelfth Night (or 12 nights after Christmas) - an evening also known as the Eve of the Epiphany."
Where can I recycle my Christmas tree?
If you have a brown bin you can simply place your real tree in your bin for kerbside collection. However, in many cases your bin may not be big enough to fit your tree in. You can cut your tree into manageable pieces to ensure the lid will close and avoid the tree being wedged in. You can check your brown bin collection date on the council website.
Alternatively, you can take your tree to any of the council Household Waste Recycling Centres throughout the city.
You can take your trees to the following locations between January 3 and January 31, according to Glasgow City Council
All real Christmas trees that are collected in brown bins or taken to recycling centres across the city are sent for composting, with trees taken to parks chipped and shredded on sit for use with the parks.
Chippings will be available for the public to take free of charge from Pollok Park.
