When to catch a final glimpse of Snow Moon lighting up the sky across Merseyside

A full Snow Moon lit up the sky across Merseyside this weekend, providing the perfect photo opportunity.

ECHO photographers Andrew Teebay and Colin Lane captured these stunning photographs of the moon rising above Liverpool's Metropolitan Cathedral on Friday night and on Hightown Beach.

February's full moon is known as the Snow Moon because of the snow and cold temperatures around this time of year. It also marks the end of hibernation and the beginning of spring.

Although the Snow Moon was at its fullest at around 8.17am this morning, February 27, there's still plenty of time left for you to see it.

Here's everything you need to know.

The Snow Moon is the second full moon of 2021 and is named after snow on the ground.

It is also known as the Hunger Moon by some Native American tribes, while others call it the Storm Moon.

After a beautifully sunny day on Saturday, clear skies should provide the perfect opportunity to see the moon this evening.

It is expected to rise in the east at around 5.46pm on Saturday and won’t set again until 7.45am on Sunday.

However, if you do miss out on witnessing the cosmic event you'll have to wait until March 28 for the next full moon, known as the worm moon and followed by the Pink Moon on April 27.
