When to cancel your Covid-19 payment to make sure you don't miss out on money as big changes start Monday

The Covid-19 payment rate will change for thousands of people on Monday as we enter phase three of the reopening plan.

Every recipient has been paid a flat rate of €350 per week but that will now drop for people who had been earning less than €200 before the pandemic.

Anyone who earned €199.99 or less will now receive €203 per week - with the first payment arriving on Tuesday, July 7.

If you were being paid €200 or more before the pandemic, you will continue to get the weekly €350.

Going back to work

Thousands of people will be back to work next week as restaurants, some pubs and even more shops reopen.

As a result these people will have to take themselves off the payment.

To do this close your claim for the COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment online using MyWelfare.ie.

You will receive your last payment on the Tuesday and it will end there.

Tax on the payment

Many people are unaware but there will be a tax liability later in the year on these payments.

Taxback.com Taxpayer Sentiment Survey revealed that 57% of respondents receiving the payment are not aware that a future tax liability is building.

Of the 43% who said they were aware of the tax implications.

How this tax will be collected remains to be seen but will be revealed later in the year.
