When the rain will stop as Met Office issue yellow warning for North East downpours

Happy summer, everyone!

The heatwave weather seems like a very, very long time ago now, doesn't it?

A yellow weather warning for rain is in place all day today in the North East but it doesn't look like the downpour will be as sustained as it has been this morning.

The Met Office forecast that the rain will begin to ease off by lunchtime and we might even get a little bit of sunshine.

But there is a roughly 50-50 chance of rain showers throughout the day so, if you hadn't guessed this already, Friday night beer garden plans are dead in the water.

Tomorrow looks a little dryer - but there is another yellow weather warning in place for sudden thunderstorms.

And it doesn't look good for Sunday either.

The forecasters say there is an 80% chance of sustained rain from 4pm onwards to see the wet weekend out.

It's nowhere near as severe beyond then and by mid-week we might even get a fully dry day.

But - and we hate to be the bearers of bad news - this weekend looks like a bit of a write-off when it comes to the weather.
